Selling food from your home kitchen requires a special permit called a Cottage Food permit.
Pastries, sauces, jams, and other preserves are all common cottage food. The State has a helpful list of approved cottage foods that you can check out!
If you want to sell food you make in your own kitchen, you are required to apply for a Cottage Food permit. Cottage Food is a term commonly used by regulating bodies when they refer to foods prepared in a home kitchen and then sold.
There are 2 classes of permits in Sonoma County:
- Class A: sell direct to consumers
- Class B: sell to local shops, restaurants, or other third-party locations
